Radio K Presents: Buffalo Moon Homecoming Show

Posted on 1/7/2012

buffalomoon.jpg

A combination of talented local musicians, a great crowd and a nearly full moon fueled the excitement that was everywhere Friday Night at The Seventh Street Entry, as local music enthusiasts gathered to welcome the return of Buffalo Moon to Minneapolis for the first time since late October.  Buffalo Moon, who last week completed their thirteenth show after a two month tour in Ecuador and Peru, was joined by local groups Night Moves, Elite Gymnastics and Tickle Torture for a night of music as diverse as one could find anywhere in the Twin Cities.

The element of celebration was apparent among all in attendance as Buffalo Moon spilled onto the stage, sharing the jubilation from backstage openly with the audience.  During the opening song, “Luiggi,” the band made quick adjustments to suit the Twin Cities crowd, all while grappling with technical difficulties that those in attendances hardly noticed.  After enjoying the rhythmic sounds of “Chica de Luna,” and the cover of The Supremes hit “You Keep Me Hanging On,” it was apparent that Buffalo Moon had in no way not lost its ability to deliver a varied and energetic performance.  The lyrics of Tiger song carried the audience effortlessly through Selva Surreal’s “Moses baby,” and eventually into “Sailor Man,” a tune that delivered the sensation of drifting on the open sea.  Following “Vida Cannibal,” Singer Karen Freire took her performance into the audience, weaving through the mesmerized crowd while never once failing to deliver her lyrics.  Despite any musical or cultural adjustments that experienced during their performance Friday night at The Entry, the group’s bassist and keyboardist remained poised amidst the excitement of the event, providing both the vocal and rhythmic support for a group whose sound can to grow more diverse in the coming year.  In addition, a solid performance from the percussionist and rhythm guitarist added to the bands overall richness, a richness that affords Buffalo Moon a truly unique, international appeal.

The outstanding performances from Night Moves, Elite Gymnastics and Tickle Torture provided an excellent musical backdrop on an evening that rightfully belonged to Buffalo Moon.  We at Radio K look forward to growing with each of the musicians that performed Friday night at the Seventh Street Entry in 2012.  A complete listing of events related to your favorite Radio K artists can be found under the events tab.  Thank you for supporting local music!
