RADIO K & PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL 2014

In a summer filled with awesome festivals, it's not hard to say which one seems to have the most people here at Radio K excited: Pitchfork! With this year's killer line-up, the relative closeness of Chicago to the Twin Cities, and the perfect timing in the middle of July, it isn't hard to see why people are so excited. Before we get into what we at the K are pumped for though, here's something you may not know about Pitchfork!

Way back in 1995, Minneapolis native Ryan Schreiber created Pitchfork Media as a website for a new kind of music journalism. One of the main influences for this creation? Radio K! Growing up here in the Twin Cities, Ryan had been a long time listener, and was inspired by our dedication to indepedent music to create something similar. To this day, he's a big supporter of the K, and you may just hear a spot featuring him during our next pledge drive if you listen carefully!

Now that you know that cool lil fact about the connection between Radio K and Pitchfork, let's dive into what we're excited for this year!

I'm only going to Sunday of the actual festival, but I'm leaving for Chicago early to take in the city, which I haven't been to in five years. There are a few aftershows so secret I won't talk about them on a blog post, but they're gonna slay. As far as the actual festival lineup goes, I intend to stay at the Green Stage the entire time: Mutual Benefit, Deafheaven, Schoolboy Q, Slowdive, and Kendrick Lamar? As the host of KREAM, I'm logically crazy for Kendrick, but I haven't managed to see any of these great acts outside of the festival, so I'm greatly anticipating crossing them all off my concert bucket list. I may sneak away from Green to see Grimes, Perfect Pussy, or just meet up with other people in attendance. As I said to a fellow music director from Connecticut, the amount of long distance friends that will be there made not investing in a ticket and a trip practically irresponsible.

Ross Koeberl (Music Director)

Soo excited for St. Vincent to blow my face off, and the strange storybook heaven of Neutral Milk Hotel.
I also might be hitting up the big summer sale in Chinatown while in Chicago!

Jennifer A (Radio K Volunteer)

Quite simply, I'm excited for FKA twigs to crush/subliminate my weak male body. That's all.

Jio Nocon (Traffic Director)

I'm very excited to see perfect pussy (and not excited to read reviews of the show afterwards and have someone inevitably say something offensive). I also hope to catch Sky Ferreira walking around on sunday so I can try and hold her hand.  Also excited to go to the Mexican Fine Art Museum!

Nailah Taman (Programming Director)
