MIAMI DOLPHINS

Sunday, March 30th was a night with no shortage of loud, energetic punk jams at First Avenue's 7th St Entry. Local four-piece The Miami Dolphins started the night off with a straight-to-the-point, chaotic set, that actually sounded a bit different than the previous times seeing the Dolphins - I would assume because I could actually hear an appropriate amount of vocals, both from lead vocalist Beth, and back-up vocals from guitarist, Patrick. They brought just as much energy as they would have to an intimate basement show, however, and was probably one of the best sounding sets I've heard them play.

CONDOMINIUM

Following up the Dolphins was Saint Paul, Minnesotans' Condominium, escalating the chaos to a more agitated, aggressive atmosphere. With an increasingly growing crowd, the place was full of lads and babes shakin' around to the contagious guitar riffs and a ridiculous(ly awesome) drum performance. The hardcore trio released their EP Carl on Sub Pop in May of last year.

PERFECT PUSSY

Finally, the finale to the night was Syracuse 3-piece Perfect Pussy. Their set, which was shorter than some encore performances I have seen, was a no-nonsense, compromising yet wildly intriguing piece. At less than 20 minutes, it felt as if someone announced the world's end, and there was only a short glimpse of time to release all of the fury, angst, sadness, and elation that was left. Lead singer Meredith Graves expelled all that she had that night on stage, and the band unexpectedly focused on tracks from the EP, I Have Lost All Desire For Feeling, and played very little from their new album Say Yes To Love, which was released on Captured Tracks just last month. That didn't stop the crowd from giving it their all either, as the whole floor was bouncing around, only amplifying the frenzy that was igniting from the stage. With an abrupt end, and a not-surprising lack of an encore, the night was over, and despite a little bit of disappointment in the briefness of the set, it left everyone that night only wanting more.
