Rites of Summer

Jul 19, 2014

Back again! Last week was cool, and again thanks to Flip Arkulary for coming in and playing music, talking business, and giving away some Black Flag tickets!

Last night I went to Bummerfest, which was rad.

Nuklear Frost got the party started with some rad local black metal. Ire Wolves came down from Duluth and rocked our faces off with their sludgy, doomy post-metal. Krawg brought their straight-up death metal for a great show. Ambassador Gun played seemingly countless loud and fast and angry grind songs. Cold Colours slayed with their melodic death-doom. Out of towners Vukari and Seidr proved their mettle (metal?) with awesome deafheaven-esque post-black metal and crushing "ritual doom," respectively. Then Noble Beast. Jesus, Noble Beast. What a show. They played power metal without shame and some of the best showmanship I've seen in a long time. Unfortunately we had to leave before House of Atreus, but if you heard us play them on last week's show, you know they were awesome! Thanks to all these bands for such a great show!

As for this week's show, we played Ire Wolves and Noble Beast to prep for Bummerfest, along with some great metal classics. Not tons of new music this week, but tons of great stuff we love.

Track of the week this week was Black Pyramid by Mutilation Rites, off their just-released album Harbinger (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKDpXO0NSN0). The album's a great combo of black metal, hardcore, and thrashy, sludgey riffs straight out of NYC. We gave away tickets to their show with Ash Borer on monday, and congrats to our two winners, one of whom called in to the show and the other messaged us on facebook!
