Technical Difficulties? A Radio K Ghost?!

Jun 03, 2017

Hey, pals!

If you tuned in last night, first of all, thank you! You’re such a doll. Second of all--YIKES. Sorry about the first 15 minutes of the show--we had three accounts of CDs skipping and a light burnt out on me? (Which was terrifying, for the record, because it started flickering right as the phone rang and then promptly died the moment I sorted the CD thing out.) Everyone always jokes about a Radio K ghost; apparently, the prime time to haunt is 8:00 PM on a Thursday.

Anyway, I spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon sorting through a pile of CDs we recently added to the show’s catalog--the standout, in my opinion, was this gem from Akira Kosemura. It’s called Embers and it accompanies a Japanese film of the same name. Give it a listen if you’ve got a chance! It’s sad and nice! Lots of piano!

In terms of spooky things, I know I mention the film Haxan every time I play the accompanying Bardi Johannsson record--if you’ve got some time on your hands, the movie is worth checking out as well. It’s a silent film from 1922 about the history of witchcraft and witch hunts. There are plenty of links floating around on YouTube; I have yet to find one with Johannsson’s score, but I’ll keep looking!

Until next week,

--S
