This Week's In-Studio: Claps
Claps joined us in-studio this Friday ahead of a show at the Hexagon Bar. They played songs off of their new EP Lies/White Lies, and Glory, Glory, their cassette tape released on Moon Glyph Records in 2012. Recently featured in a City Pages article "Ten Twin Cities Music Acts that Deserve to Be Famous", Claps have been an underappreciated (in our opinion) fixture of the local music scene for quite some time. Taking cues from post-punk, minimal synth, and darkwave, Claps possess a rough, visceral quality that sets them apart from a simple synthpop outfit. There's a real sense of immediacy in their music and the new EP Lies/White Lies delivers. Claps is Jed Smentek, Patrick Donohoe, and Sara Abdelaal. They released Lies/White Lies November 1st, 2013.
New Music This Week
We debuted a new single from Bollywood, who dropped an accompanying video last Thursday. Check it out below.
We also featured new music from Dial-Up ahead of their Cold Rinse cassette release show at Icehouse on Sunday.
Rounding out the mix, we played a track from world music-inspired trio Body Omara, who celebrated the release of their self-titled LP at Icehouse on Monday.
