An In-Studio with Web of Sunsets + All Your Favorite Local Jams
This Week's In-Studio: Web of Sunsets
Web of Sunsets joined us in-studio in support of their debut LP Room of Monsters released 2/18 on Seattle-based End of Time Records. Their “Fool’s Melodies” b/w “Neon Blood” release garnered plenty of positive attention last April and Room of Monsters follows in that same vein.
The band has no lead vocalist, per say, and doesn’t have a rhythm section. Sara Bischoff (Heavy Deeds), Sarah Nienaber (Is/Is, Gospel Gossip), and Chris Rose (Vampire Hands, Heavy Deeds) swap vocal duties and instrumentation each song. Web of Sunset’s hazy, psychedelic folk sound has been compared to Mazzy Star (apty so- Nienaber used to play in a Mazzy Star cover band) and Cowboy Junkies. They’ve been described as “acid country” as well, although that description belies the clarity and simplicity that is present in their songwriting. This is music you listen to under a starlit sky in the Mojave. The reverb here, simultaneously sparse and full, evokes an infinite space--a vast desert landscape-- and the melancholic longing and quiet awe of the beauty of it all.
Room of Monsters was tracked in a single day at Neil Weir’s Old Blackberry Way. They played the album release show at the Turf Club with Anonymous Choir and Invisible Boy on Saturday and are looking to tour this summer.
