An in-studio with Caroline Smith and company, I played some Prince because I can, and new First Communion Afterparty
This Week's In-studio: Caroline Smith
Having just returned from touring in support of her new album, Half About Being a Woman, Caroline Smith joined us in Studio K more confident than ever. The new album, which takes a less indie approach and a more neo-soul, R&B styling, is more true to this young artist, as she explained during her session on Off the Record. This new record showcases Caroline's incredible voice better than ever and her in-studio was truly gorgeous. The focus on self-acceptance and confidence in the record was reflected immensely during her session.
Caroline has been garnering a lot of attention as of late, including a PBS documentary on her transformation titled My Way Back Home:
Want to see Caroline live? She's opening for Charles Bradley this Thursday Dec. 5th at First Avenue.

I did the show solo this week and was in the mood to dig deep into the depths (ok not really THAT deep) of the Off the Record library for stuff like Zuzu's Petals, The Vignettes, Babes in Toyland, The Replacements, Husker Du, and Zebulon Pike.
Also I played Prince because WHY NOT.
Have you checked out Prince's Twitter? Because you probably should.
This week I also subconsciously had somewhat genre-centric sets as follows:
First Communion Afterparty, Black Spring, Chatham Rise, Fire in the Northern Fir = Ambient, post-rock, noise set
ZuZus Petals, The Vignettes, Babes in Toyland, Cadette = Riot Girl set
Caroline Smith's in-studio, Har Mar, and Prince = R&B, Soul set
Nice Purse, France Camp, Diver Dress, Frankie Teardrop = Surf-garage punk set
The Replacements, Zebulon Pike, Buildings, Husker Du = Punk, metal, all around good set
Clap Chapel, CLAPS, Nude Sunrise, Nude Sunrise = Synth, miminal, electronic pop set
Elite Gymnastic and Glow Mechanics = The one leftover, but was rad anyways.
They're releasing their sophomore album, Schmo Mechanics, on December 8th and will be joining us in-studio on Friday Dec. 6th to give us a taste of their second LP. Super stoked to have these dudes in studio.
We've been playing "Toasty" and "T. the Water Breather" from the new album the past couple of weeks, if you've been tuning in.
Check out a couple tracks off Schmo Mechanics
TUNE IN AT 3PM FOR IT ALL, AND 3:30PM FOR GLOW MECHANICS. DON'T MISS IT.
