SKSW Guest Blog: Chatham Rise pt.2

Chatham Rise recounts the trials and tribulations of lines, badges>wristbands, and seeing a lot of great music (including Ghostt with Sean Lennon)

Chatham Rise day 2 evening - We went to see the Black Angels at the Mohawk and there was a long line we didn't make it through but were able to get in next door to catch Kurt Vile play a beautiful set at Cheer up Charlie's...the night took a tragic turn as many of the folks outside the two clubs were mowed down by a drunk driver fleeing police, killing 2 people and injuring 25 more.  So sad and most unnecessary as people can get from one place to another much more easily on foot with all happening at SXSW.  Thoughts out to the families of the victims...  One fortunate thing is that about 300 people were moved off of the road just a few minutes earlier because they were standing in the fire lane...

Chatham Rise day 3 - This is the day of our Offficial Showcase...most of the bands we love at the festival all in one place.  We got to the show early and it was nice to not have to wait in line for once.  We saw great sets by Norway's Electric Eye, No Joy, Temples, Black Lips, and also enjoyed seeing Sean Lennon - his band Ghostt surprised me as being one of the best sets at the showcase...  With all of the bands moving in and out, load in and line check was a hustle...the sound and visuals were great for our set and we had a good time playing to and meeting some new folks at the festival.  We sadly missed Blouse as we had to load out, but made it back to Hotel Vegas to catch Secret Colours and Forest Swords...no cabs available at the end of the night, so a 3 mile hike to South Congress broken up by a pizza break at Home Slice closed out the evening...

The long lines, the badges that override your wristbands, the lines for RSVPs so that you can get into another line at the club...and there's those badge people again strolling in ahead of you!...so much standing around doing nothing...I don't think we'll ever go back to SXSW but the day at the Austin Psych Fest Levitation showcase really made the trip all worthwhile!
