Under the Covers: Wednesday 2/12Feb 12, 2014
Merv conceived something beautiful in the shower today... it was "Under-the-Cover's" Wednesday, our new Wednesday feature where we play only covers starting at 8.
Most great ideas come under apple trees, as far as I understand: gravity; the internet; and Doritos Locos Tacos, to name a few. This morning, however, Merv conceived an idea from another idea hotbed, the shower. The shower is a winter innovation zone, when there are no apples to be found on trees. But alas, I digress. This morning in the shower Merv came up with the idea of a Wednesday feature called Under-the-Covers. From 8-9 we tried to put together a list of obscure, b-side covers perfect for the K. We didn't do a very good job on obscure, but you did. We probably had 12 suggestions from the music encyclopedias that you all are. In the end, we put together a pretty good list I think, and we'll be keeping Under-the-Covers in rotation for a while. Highlights from the show included Har Mar Superstar covering Gilbert O'Sullivan with the song Alone Again, Naturally. The Lemonheads did Simon and Garfunkel, with Mrs. Robinson. Cowboy Junkie covered The Velvet Underground and the song Sweet Jane. Frank Black covered Elvis' Song of the Shrimp. We finished the night off with ELO covering Chuck Berry, Roll over Beethoven. We even threw in some Catpower. It was all just a taste of great things to come next Wednesday and Wednesdays in the future. Thanks showers, thanks Merv.
