Up On The Hill Where They Do The Boogie

Dec 01, 2013

Man oh man was this a fun show! There was a bunch of recorded music from the likes of Shofar, Wadada Leo Smith & Louis Moholo-Moholo, and Canonball Adderly. BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THAT STUFF!?!?! You came here to hear about the fantastic in-studio performance we heard from George Cartwright (saxophonist from the great downtwon 80s crew Curlew and local avant GIANT), Paul Metzger (another local avant GIANT on the guitar), Andrew Broder (of indie bands Fog and The Cloak Ox) and Tim Glenn (also of Fog). Goodness me were these guys killin. We heard tender, tight tight tight tight soft stuff, we heard blazin explosions, and we heard everything in between. They gave us 30 minutes of free improvisation that neither I, nor you, nor Radio K had to pay a cent for. They just came down because they are nice guys. They talked on air too. Andrew told a story about turning MF DOOM on to Charles Bukowski…which I very unorganically pulled out of him because I am a DOOM nerd. George gave me a copy of Oxford American’s new music issue which featured one of his tunes. It was an all-around great time. I wish you all could have been there.
