The Jocularity of Filth (2/2/14)

Feb 02, 2014

photo_18.JPG

Hot, up and coming Radio K disc jockey Mark Mahoney joined us this week to guest DJ a couple of sets of music from his native Chicagoland area. We also heard a wonderful tune from a 1962 radio broadcast live from Birdland featuring Charles Mingus. John Lee Hooker & Miles Davis collaborated on a deep, deep, deep blues number on today's show from the 1990 film The Hot Spot directed by Dennis "Dennis Hopper" Hopper. We also laid down some Count Ossie & The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, an early Rasta spiritual leader and reggae influencer, with a tune that sounded like a mix between early 70s Art Ensemble of Chicago and a chopped and screwed Skatalites track. Bless up and stay tuned for next week we are gonna have an in-studio from the local reeds/drums duo of Alden Ikeda and Jon Davis. Here's a clip so you know what kinda raw shit you're about to get into next week (https://soundcloud.com/notes-improvisation/alden-ikeda-jon-davis-madame-3).
