Ghostly International's Beacon make IDM- and R&B-influenced electronica that Stereogum describes as "beat-driven, addictive electro-pop goodness that works just as well on the dance floor or in headphones.” The title of the Brooklyn duo's sophomore album,Escapements, alludes to clock mechanics and timekeeping regulation. As the title suggests, the album's 11 tracks tick with a mechanical resonance. Opener “IM U” wades through a warping darkness, while the stuttering beats in “Backbone” invoke a sense of urgency. With sighing vocals atop pulsing rhythms and decaying electronics, Beacon take us on a journey as liberating as it is grounding.
