Evolution and emotion collide in the Minnesota debut of The How and the Why, the thought-provoking, sharply humorous play about love, science, family and choices faced by women of all generations. The air crackles between two biologists, maverick graduate student Rachel and eminent Professor Zelda Kahn, who seem to be meeting for the first time. Rachel’s radical new theory challenges Zelda’s award-winning research. As the professional sparring shifts to a deeper, more personal conversation, they discover links and dreams beyond the “How” of Mother Nature and reproduction, and seek to answer the question “Why.” The How and the Why is written by esteemed playwright Sarah Treem, who has helped pen some of the best new shows on television including Showtime’sThe Affair, HBO’s In Treatment and Netflix’s House of Cards.

Theatre Unbound delivers thought-provoking theatre that is conceived and created by women, providing audiences with rarely seen glimpses on issues that are relevant to all perspectives. Since 1999, Theatre Unbound has produced theatre by women artists, stimulating communities to change the way they view gender roles.
