The Klituation is a dance party created by and for women, women-identifying, non-conforming, and queer women. Featuring an all women cast in music, fashion design, visual arts, and dance, The Klituation showcases the collective power of women in creative fields. Through this act of representation and resistance, it paves the way for future events created for and by a larger female identified base in the local music scene and beyond.
Dee Dee Roper, internationally known as DJ Spinderella, is a Grammy, BET and MTV award-winning DJ, producer, rapper and writer and a world-class mother. Born and raised in Minneapolis, DJ Keezy has been making waves in the Twin Cites for four years now. Through her years of DJ’ing and realizing that women are consistently being underestimated in their own talents and abilities, Keezy has a commitment to using her gift to highlight other artists. She is the founder of one of the first all female identified line-up dance parties to hit First Avenue's Mainroom. She has won Twin Cities Best Club DJ of 2017. In addition, she is a curator of many other dance nights within the Twin Cities.
Lady Midnight, she is an experience. She is an ethereal vocalist and performance artist who draws upon her multidisciplinary background in visual art, dance and Afro-indigenous roots to create work that timelessly reflects our collective lives. Lady Midnight is one half of the group Parables of Neptune, a duo with Afrokeys (former keyboardist of Atmosphere) and was named Best Twin Cities Vocalist of 2017 by City Pages.
Twin Cities' own rap 'hellion,' Manchita (GRRRL PRTY, Tha Clerb), is gearing up to release her debut sola project, One, with Minneapolis-based producer-performer-composer, Bionik (Aaliyah, R. Kelly, Lizzo). Though Bionik is known for his danceable, in-your-face, pulsing, electronic bass music, the EP’s production showcases an unexpected moodiness, tenderness, and an attention to subtlety that is made visible and is amplified by the gritty content of Manchita’s words, and her whispy falsetto. As a whole, the project promises to reveal a more introspective, heavy-hearted body of work centered on love, loss, and survival.
The Lioness, born Shaiwna Adams on April 6, 1988 is the youngest of a large family from Minneapolis. Like many growing up in the now infamous North Side, she has worked very hard to get where she is today. Shaiwna was the first in her household to graduate from college. Following inspiration from the likes of Ms. Lauryn Hill & Queen Latifah, helped influence her artistically. Shaiwna found her musical talents when she began singing in the church choir, then expanding into poetry and spoken word, Shaiwna found herself wanting to spend more time performing for others. Local open mic’s provided an outlet for her to express her words.
A self-proclaimed “Daughter of the Midwest,” singer/songwriter K.Raydio (born Krysta Rayford) has released two EP’s, performed in many of the Twin Cities’ landmark concert venues (7th St Entry, Cabooze, Varsity Theater), established a fanbase in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, and conquered stage fright – in less than a year. Who is K.Raydio? You’re about to find out. “Dare to be different.”
Mayda is a young yet seasoned Korean Adoptee multi-musician/artist/producer from the land of 10,000 Lakes.
