Radio K takes SXSW 2018: Day Three
Well, we woke up deliriously tired, but raring to go for the exciting day ahead of us. We headed over to the supposedly 18+ Pitchfork showcase, only to hear the age restriction had just been changed to 21+. In a moment of weakness, we even tried to DM the owner of Pitchfork to ask for help, an interesting tactic looking back. However, we eventually regained our spirit and common sense and made a new plan for the day.
Jeyca, Dessa’s good pal, went over to the Current’s showcase to see Dessa perform a killer set at the Blackheart bar. While there, Jeyca also interviewed Minneapolis performers, Nazeem and Spencer.
In the meantime, Maddie and I trekked two miles in 90 degrees to attend Urban Outfitter’s showcase near the University of Texas campus. Engaging performances by Palm and Soccer Mommy made the journey well worth it. Complementary mineral water, black rock candy, and mini polaroids were present, just like you’d expect.
We headed back to out hotel to regroup and get some A/C. A few hours later, we made our way to Cheer Up Charlie’s bar for an interview with Nnamdi Ogbonnaya. Nnamdi is an extremely promising eclectic artist who’s music pulls from a variety of genres including hip-hop, math rock, and punk. Maddie and I stuck around the bar for his set, and caught performances by Topaz Jones, Sammus, Lucy Dacus, and Vundabar.
Around 1am, we returned for our hotel to prepare for the big event. Check in tomorrow for a recap of our very last day of SXSW!
